When the children pray.
It was one of those conversations I could have easily discarded in autopilot mode. My mind racing with all the things I needed to remember to do while Shiloh was going on and on about a bunch of different things. But I heard something that perked my ears to be more attuned and then asked her to repeat what she just said. “You said you guys prayed together?”
And then Shiloh proceeded to explain to me. You see, the day before, I had a chat with the kids about a family we know that is going through a hard time and that we can be praying for them and be there for them. That we can love them well, be available to them and make sure to pray for them in this hard season.
The next day, I found out that that night, before the 4 big kids went to bed, Shiloh mentioned to them all that they should all pray together for this family.
Shiloh remembered my words and felt she should pray together with her siblings. When she mentioned it to them, they all agreed.
And so, I found out that my oldest 4 children (7, 9, 11, 12) all sat together downstairs in bed and spent time praying out loud together for this family. Tears began to well up in my eyes imagining this scene. Knowing that they made that decision and all in agreement, took turns speaking out loud and lifting their hearts and voices fo God in unison on someone else’s behalf, without my own prompting or initiation.
That’s the heart cry of a parent. For your children to see and learn and do. Not because they are told but because their own hearts believe. I was blown away to hear that that is what my children did before bed that night. Prayed together.
And also that I almost missed hearing about it because I was too busy with the to-dos. Taking a mental note to hear my children’s voices more clearly and turning everything off to hear their hearts.
What are you exemplifying in your life that is setting an example for your kids? What’s are they seeing daily? What are they mirroring after you?
God, you are so good! What is a cool God moment you have seen in your children lately?
